# How to enable fundraising minimums for an event
Setting **Fundraising minimums** allows an event and its fundraising organizations to set a minimum amount for fundraisers to raise and charge outstanding balances. If this is enabled, the participant will be required to fundraise a minimum amount for the selected charity, and if the minimum is not raised by a set date, the fundraiser agrees to have their credit card charged for the difference between the minimum and the amount raised.
### Steps to enable fundraising minimums
1\. Search the menu for **Settings → Fundraising** and select the **Fundraising settings** tab.
2. Toggle on **Allow fundraising organizations to require fundraising minimum**. Once this is enabled, this setting is available for each charity in their organization settings.
**Note:** Turning off this toggle does not remove any fundraising minimums functionality for pre-existing fundraisers with minimums. It only disables minimums for new fundraisers.
3\. If **Set a baseline fundraising minimum per sub-event** is enabled, charities **must** require minimums of a certain amount, and optionally by a certain date. This allows event organizers to set the minimums for all fundraising organizations in one step.
- The fundraising organization will then need to enable minimums and add the corresponding sub-events to apply the minimums to.
- Fundraising organizations may set **higher amounts or earlier deadlines**, but cannot go lower or later than the baseline set by the event organizers.
- The deadline setting is display only and will appear on pages such as registration and the participant dashboard.

### How it works
When a user sets a minimum for a sub-event, any participant that selects the charity with minimums enabled and registers for that sub-event will:
- have their credit card saved at check-out,
- have the minimum saved to their fundraiser record,
- and can have their credit card charged from the Fundraisers list.
When the registrant selects a fundraising organization that has a minimum, the minimum amount will appear as well as the deadline if configured. The information bubble notes that the remaining balance will be charged if the minimum is not met.
An agreement will also appear in the checkout step of registration before the credit card information is entered.
The participant can view and track their fundraising goal on the participant dashboard.
- The participant's fundraising goal will automatically be set to the minimum set by the event/fundraising organization.
- Participants can **increase** their fundraising goal by selecting to edit their fundraising page.
- Participants are not able to change the charity selected in registration, even if no funds have been raised yet.
